Movie: Rio
Cast: Jesse Eisenbergh, Anne Hathway
Rating: ***
The whole world as we experience it visually comes to us through the mystic realm of color. It is the story of a domesticated bird who circumstantially tumbles upon the free world outside the four walls.Wildlife, colors and music are the flavors of this Movie. It begins with the life of a macaw bird, Blu (Jesse) who has lived indoors as a pet bird forever. This led him to become a flightless and humanlike bird. He meets Jewel (Anne Hathway) the only living female macaw who is wild, courageous and loved to fly in the free sky unlike him. Then a lot of incidents lands him in the world outside, of which he is completely unaware of. He goes through a chain of adventures and meets a variety of characters on the way to discover a whole new universe and perspective to life.
The film has a refreshing feeling to it. The makers must be really artistic and creative to come up with so many bright colors and beautiful birds. The film has some really funny scenes and hilarious characters with a simple storyline. Above all Rio De Janeiro has been shown beautifully through the animation.
All the characters are adorable in the film. Every character has its own charm and a story to tell. The story is simple but its presentation is great. Jesse Eisenbergh as a typical voice which reminded me of the astute dialogues he throws at everybody’s face in the social network. But he is also very convincing as the vulnerable and out of place bird. Anne Hathway sounds sexy and tough at the same time. Jammie Fox was the surprise package as the little and delicate Nico. But the opening scene with thousands of beautiful and colorful birds singing and dancing around takes your breath away.
The Movie addresses a strong message through it of how wildlife shouldn’t be taken away from their natural habitat. They deserve to be free like any one of us. We can love them and nurture them but not at the cost of their normal life.
